WOFPP - Women Organisation for Political Prisoners
Location : Tel-Aviv
Creation : 1988
Local issues : the detention conditions of Palestinian women incarcerated in Israeli prisons violate the basic international standard of treatment of prisoners. The detainees, close to a hundred, are victims of mistreatment during interrogations, lack of medical care, prolongation of the incarceration period beyond the termination of the penalty, refusal for mothers to keep their children with them and refusal of their right to education in prison.
Missions : the association, run by Israeli women, provides social and legal aid to Palestinian prisoners and also carries out information work. One of the counsels of the association carries out numerous visits to the prisons where the Palestinian women are incarcerated. This allows the denunciation of the shortcomings and the violations of fundamental rights but also the intervention at different levels to obtain the respect of those rights. The association also helps families to locate the prisoners who are often transferred without them being informed.
Important : WOFPP was the very first organization in the field supported by Agir Ensemble pour les Droits de l’Homme (in 1990).
