LIMEDDH - Mexican League for the Defense of Human Rights

Creation : 1985
Local issues : Mexico regularly announces its commitment for the respect of international treaties on human rights. However, so far, little progress has been made, particularly in regards to the fight against impunity. Arbitrary arrests and ill-treatment in detention, discrimination against indigenous minorities, violence against women, suppression of social movements, threats against the defenders of human rights, are widely prevalent.
Missions : The LIMEDDH’s objectives are to denounce human rights violations and to give medical and psychological assistance to the victims. It also develops human rights training, especially for students, and lobbies at a national and international level.
Important : The association, which lacks significant financial means, is characterized by a strong personal commitment of its members. The headquarters are located in Mexico but it has several offices in different regions of the country.

Partnership with AEDH : since 1995.
AEDH Support : AEDH has supported different projects run by the LIMEDDH, especially in the field of legal defense of the victims of grave violation of fundamental rights, and has provided financial support for the association’s for the running costs of its headquarters in Mexico.
