Location : Libreville
Creation : 2000
Local issues : Originally organised in Benin and Togo, the trafficking has spread to most of the countries in the sub- region (Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mali and Nigeria). The exploiters are often foreigners that employ children in their native country.
The number of child victims of human trafficking present in the Gabonese territory is obviously poorly known.Numbers vary between 3000 and 45 000 children. Each year, hundreds of children are sent illegally to Gabon for work, mainly in commerce or domestic work. These minors exploited for financial purposes are often subjected to other forms of violence, even sexual abuse from the father of the host family.
Missions : SIFOS has the mission to promote and defend the right of homeless children, children victims of trafficking as well as orphans forced to drop out. It mainly offers professional education to these children and raises the awareness of the authorities as well as the public opinion on this issue.
Important : SIFOS has offices in the 9 provinces of Gabon and is supported by 200 volunteers.
