All over the world, men and women activists are denouncing violations of people’s rights and giving voice to their indignation. Whether they try to protect the victims of barbaric tyrants or to promote a constitutional state, they run the risk of violent retaliation which can take the form of arbitrary arrest and imprisonment, harassment and even assassination
In 2011, the activity of the Emergency Fund grew dramatically compared with the year before, both regarding the quantity of funds given and the countries concerned.

Oscar Figueroa was the Simtraemcali union representative to the International Labour Office. Threatened with his life, he had to leave his country in 2006. Our Emergency Fund assisted him with the costs of his and his family’s voyage to and their resettlement in Lyon.
